What is Team 3:16?
Team 3:16—The Importance of Bible Reading
Team 3:16 is a parish wide Bible reading programme designed to encourage people to read the Bible daily, and to read the whole bible in the space of two years. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Paul writes:
All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The Bible is the word of God; all of it has been 'breathed out' by God. The Bible is useful for the essentials of Christian life, and indeed the Bible is able to thoroughly equip us.
In Isaiah 66:2 God tells us "This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word." We are convinced that God's saving and transforming power for us is to be found in his word and that the right response on our part is to hear his word and humbly accept and believe.
Team 3:16—The Benefits of Partnership
Team 3:16 is about partnership and accountability. By having a programme that everyone can be part of it makes it easier for us to ask each other about our quiet times, to talk with each other about what we have learnt and been challenged by and to feel that sense of teamwork and 'being in it together'.
It is also strongly recommended that people sign up for Team 3:16 in pairs or even triplets. This is so that there is clear accountability as well as having a partner to be spurred on by and to pray for.
Team 3:16—The Need for Commitment
Given the importance of daily reading and engaging with God's word to us, it is right that we devote ourselves to this worthy task. That's why we ask people to sign up to be part of Team 3:16 — to express an earnest commitment and resolution to spend 7 minutes a day 7 days a week reading God's word.
Let's pray that God would continue to transform us to be like Christ through his word.
Team 3:16—REAP Technique
You might like to use the following questions as a helpful guideline as you do your daily readings. The questions are general enough to be used on any passage but are also designed so that you can consider it in more depth. Some may find it helpful to have a blank textbook or notepad to use as a Bible reading journal; as questions are raised, ideas stand out, or prayer points come to mind it would be good to write them down.
