Whybrows at Hillston: news update and prayer requests

25 February 2010

Linday and Lyn WhybrowDear Friends,

The Lord be with you in this new year. Lyn and I are thankful and confident of your support. As we consider the activities of the last few months, we are conscious of how fast time moves. We spent a week in Springwood from Christmas time, but had to be back for the Combined Service on 3rd January. It was worth it, with an attendance of 50! In fact most of January had a good attendances. It has dropped off lately, for one reason or another.

During January I was able to spend some time in planning for the year, while Lyn went back to Springwood to mind our house while Lesley and Shane went for a brief holiday. I also had the opportunity of joining in the Annual bush cricket match, and the Australia Day celebrations.

We have established a Confirmation class, with three confirmees. We will have to move fairly quickly as Confirmation will be on April 18th.

Before Scripture clases began, I hosted a morning tea for the SRE teachers of Hillston and Goolgowi. We discussed the lessons, had some bible input, and prayed together. I think they find it helpful to do this twice a year.

Our big splash was the Shrove Tuesday Pancake night on 16th Feb. The evening went very well, as we served savoury and sweer pancakes to about 40 people. I was able to give a talk regarding our preparations for Easter and all that it meant.

This weekend will be a welcome break for us. We have been asked to give a BCA deputation talk at a missionary dinner at Cootamundra on Saturday night. We will stay over with our friends (the Barleys).

Next Saturday (6 March) will see the second Hillston Bible Teach-in, to be held for all the churches and leaders throughout our area. Please pray for Rev David Clarke of St Marys as he leads us and then preaches on Sunday at a service which will include the baptism of two children from our church.

Before we know it, Easter will be upon us, and during the school holidays, the team from Hoxton Park will arrive to conduct the Children's Club (April 7-9). Please be in prayer about this.

Then on 18th April (same day as the Confirmation), Lyn and I will head off to Spain to visit Stephanie and her family, including our baby grandson Daniel. Things at Hillston will be taken care of for 5 weeks by Les and Lynne Barley who have so generously offered to fill in for us.

As to further matters for your prayers, please consider the following:

With prayers for God's blessing on all of you,
We say goodbye for now.
