When Betty Russell heard a talk by a Burmese Orphanage worker and Springwood Anglican Church in 2001 she was spurred into action.
Along with her fellow parishioners, the Hawkesbury Heights resident was deeply affected by harrowing tales of poverty and children being sold into prostitution for as little as $50.
“I just couldn't sleep. I kept thinking of a 50 dollar price tag on a child”, she said.
It-wasn't long before Betty rag up two close friends, Anna Morrison and Audrey Simpson, and the beginnings of the Winmalee/Springwood Anglican Church's annual fund-raising jumble sale were put in place.
Since starting in 2001, their efforts have raised $27,000 for orphans under care pf CNEC (Christian Nationals' Evangelism Council) Partners International.
